Course Description

The focus of this course is on learning the use of networks and cloud in organizations. The course will comprise discussion of the Open System Interconnection (OSI) and Internet models, technologies and protocols, architecture, security, and management. Hands-on experience with cloud software and infrastructure will be provided.

Course Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental principles of communication and data networks, including key technologies, components, protocols, and common network vulnerabilities.
  2. Design, analyze, and evaluate basic network architectures by applying core networking concepts, conducting network mapping, and interpreting packet flows using tools such as Wireshark and Nmap.
  3. Demonstrate practical networking proficiency by capturing, tracking, and assessing data packets in TCP/IP communications and utilizing network monitoring tools to evaluate network performance and security.
  4. Analyze modern computing environments by explaining hardware components, system and software architectures, organizational IT roles, and the interaction between computing systems and networks.
  5. Assess and apply core network defense concepts, including security tools, policies, and operational procedures, to protect and secure networked systems and communication infrastructures.
  6. Apply AI and machine learning techniques to cybersecurity tasks, including automating security processes, detecting and analyzing cyber risks, and developing effective mitigation strategies.
