Course Description
This course focuses on the study of generalized database management systems. The study will include logical and physical database models based primarily on the relational model. Students will create databases utilizing an established database management system. They will get extensive experience in developing data models, creating relational databases, and formulating and executing SQL queries. Hands-on experience to a multiuser Database Management System (DBMS) will be provided.
Course Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course should be able to do the following:
- Acquire and analyze data requirements in business
- Develop entity-relationship models from requirements
- Design, implement, and manage relational databases
- Normalize databases to remove anomalies
- Retrieve and manipulate data using structured query language (SQL)
