Course Description

This course introduces the fundamentals of network security, security vulnerabilities, attack methods, and mitigation approaches. A comprehensive list of security issues related to networking design and development will be discussed. Topics include ethics in network security, basic cryptography, Firewalls, threats and security measures at different TCP/IP layers. SSH protocol, E-mail security, and Web security.

Course Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Define the critical characteristics of a Computer Network
  2. Apply sniffing and Spoofing Using Python.
  3. Understand different layers of TCP/IP protocol stack and apply TCP session hijacking attack
  4. Understand types of firewalls and build a simple firewall using Netfilter
  5. Understand DNS Hierarchy, Zones, and Servers and apply a denial-of-service attack on DNS servers
  6. Understand how TLS/SSL VPN work, setting up and testing a VPN
  7. Perform TLS Programming.
  8. Understand how Blockchain works, and apply mining in Blockchain
  9. Understand XSS attack and prevent XSS attack
